Radiative cooling functions for primordial molecules
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cooling of primordial gas plays a crucial role in the birth of the first structures in our Universe. Due to the low fractional abundance of molecular species at high redshifts, spontaneous emission rather than collisions represents the most efficient way to cool the pristine plasma. In the present work, radiative cooling functions are evaluated for the diatomic species HD, HD+, HeH+, LiH and LiH+. Cooling functions for the triatomic ions H3 and H2D + are also considered. Analytic fits as functions of temperature are provided.

Evolution of Primordial Protostellar Clouds —quasi-static Analysis—
The contraction processes of metal-free molecular clouds of starlike mass (or cloud cores) are investigated. We calculate radiative transfer of the H2 lines and examine quasi-static contraction with radiative cooling. Comparing two time-scales, the free-fall time tff and the time-scale of quasi-static contraction tqsc (∼ tcool, the cooling time) of these cores, we find that the ratio of the two...
متن کاملThe Formation and Fragmentation of Primordial Molecular Clouds
Many questions in physical cosmology regarding the thermal history of the intergalactic medium, chemical enrichment, reionization, etc. are thought to be intimately related to the nature and evolution of pregalactic structure. In particular the efficiency of primordial star formation and the primordial IMF are of special interest. We present results from high resolution three–dimensional adapti...
متن کاملInvestigation of Radiative Cooling Using a Photonic Composite Material for Water Harvesting
The objective of this study is to design and analyse materials which are capable of harvesting water from thin air using condensation phenomenon which employs the radiative cooling approach. These passive cooling materials not only solve the water generating problems, but also employed in various cooling applications. The fundamental concept of radiative cooling is analysed and the performance ...
متن کاملThe cooling of shock-compressed primordial gas
We find that at redshifts z > ∼ 10, HD line cooling allows strongly-shocked primordial gas to cool to the temperature of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). This temperature is the minimum value attainable via radiative cooling. Provided that the abundance of HD, normalized to the total number density, exceeds a critical level of ∼ 10, the CMB temperature floor is reached in a time which is ...
متن کاملInterstellar Chemistry: Radiation, Dust and Metals
An overview is given of the chemical processes that occur in primordial systems under the influence of radiation, metal abundances and dust surface reactions. It is found that radiative feedback effects differ for UV and X-ray photons at any metallicity, with molecules surviving quite well under irradiation by X-rays. Starburst and AGN will therefore enjoy quite different cooling abilities for ...
